About our Community
| Established in 2001, the Ridges of Alexandria comprises 41 single family homes in what was once the Turkeycock Run Park in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County, Virginia. Individual lots average about 0.42 acres, with some exceeding half an acre. Our homes have a traditional brick or stone front, with either an open porch or a portico. Many homes in our community have more than 6,000 sq. ft. of living space, and all have a 2- or 3-car garage. (Click to view selected sites/homes). A park-like buffer zone separates our community from surrounding neighborhoods. Located well inside the Capital Beltway (I-495), some 8 miles southwest of Washington DC, our community enjoys easy access to jobs in our nation's capital, as well as to its museums, theaters, cultural centers, universities and cosmopolitan life. Our access to other employment centers in the Greater Washington D.C. metro area in all directions is also just as easy because of our proximity to major highways. Our children attend the highly-regarded and nationally-acclaimed Fairfax County public school system, as well as several excellent private schools within a 3-4 mile radius. We are close to parks, sports and other recreation facilities, major shopping centers, and hospitals and other medical facilities. The Ronald Reagan National Airport and the Dulles International Airport are, respectively, only about 15 and 35 minutes away. We are a closely-knit community of friendly neighbors, and we like to gather to celebrate holidays at least twice a year. | ![]() |

| Dear Homeowners, Hope you all enjoyed our mild winter although I am sure all of you snow shovelers were disappointed with the lack of snow. As we all start spring clean-up and getting ready for summer activities, I wanted to update you on our homeowner’s association activities. First, please join the Board in welcoming our newest members to the neighborhood, Hasan and Vivian Zia and Kevin and Holly Hogan. The Zia’s bought the Aiello house at 4507 Fairway Downs Ct. The Hogan’s are the new owners of the Felt house at 6330 River Downs Rd. Please take the time to say hello and welcome to the community . The Ridges of Alexandria Board of Directors lost two of its long-time members: Charlie Battaglia retired from the Board but he is still an active member of our community. Dave Felt and his wife Paula downsized and move out of Ridges of Alexandria to Arlington. They will be greatly missed. Paul Glenn moved from the Architectural Review Committee to the Board and Tim Osbourne joined the Board. The Board provides management and oversight of the Ridges of Alexandria Homeowner Association. During our first meeting the officers were selected: President – Trish Janssen (Burnt Pine Ct); Vice President and Treasurer – Tim Osbourne (Burnt Pine Ct); and Secretary – Paul Glenn (River Downs Rd) Marty Ryan joined Rita Inkpen and Larry Kam on the the Architectural Review Committee (ARC). The ARC reviews and approves homeowners’ architectural change applications and establishes architectural guidelines. Please feel free to contact any of us if you have suggestions or concerns. Speaking of the ARC, several of you have pointed out to us that our ARC application still references our old management company. We will try to change the application in the near future but until then please use the current application on the website (ridgesofalexandria.net) and give your completed application to any member of the ARC. The Board and the ARC will be conducting our Spring Neighborhood Walkthrough this Saturday, 5 May. The purpose of the walkthrough is to make sure we are all doing our part to keep our community attractive and maintain property values. Our homes are almost 10 years old and many homeowners have already had issues with water damage around certain areas of our homes such as on dormers. Please remember that good paint maintenance can help minimize this damage. Most of you are doing an outstanding job of keeping our neighborhood a desirable place to live. Finally, the Board has had many complaints about a few pet owners not cleaning up after their pets during walks. Please remember that it is a Fairfax County requirement that pet owners clean up their animal’s waste and it is just the right thing to do. Please be considerate of everyone who works so hard to keep their yards looking nice and be a good neighbor…clean up after your pet. I look forward to seeing you all our in the community this spring and summer. Remember school will be out soon so watch out for kids playing and riding their bikes in the neighborhood. Please have a safe and happy summer. Trish Janssen |
Messages from Charlie Battaglia, ROA HOA President (until December 2011)
December 8, 2011
On Tuesday evening, December 6, 2011, homeowners of Ridges of Alexandria assembled for the HOA annual meeting. The following are highlights of that meeting:1. The Association remains solvent and as a result, the annual assessment of $860 will not increase in 2012. 2. As a result of the resignation of Board Members Dave Felt and Charlie Battaglia, homeowners elected Paul Glenn to a three year term to the Board and Tim Osburne to a two year term effective December 7, 2011. In behalf of Dave Felt and myself, I want to thank all homeowners for their understanding and cooperation in allowing us to carry out our responsibilities as spelled out in our Bylaws. After nine years of Board service, it was our belief that new leadership would be beneficial to the Association. A Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year to all of you. Charlie Battaglia |

| Members of the Board of Directors and the Architectural Review Committee completed its periodic walk-through of the neighborhood on Saturday, April 23. With the high winds this past winter and spring, it is not surprising that 12 shudders were missing from a number of homes. In addition, weather has taken its usual toll on the paint of window frames and garages. Hopefully, with better weather ahead, these will be repaired as well as delinquent lawn and anti-weeding care. Letters will be issued shortly to the affected homeowners along with a deadline for completion.
In line with this, several homeowners have found Mr. George Benish a reliable and fair-priced local contractor for painting and shutter installation. Mr. Benish can be reached at 703-536-5428. On another note, a reminder that ROA will advertise a neighborhood yard sale for Saturday, May 14 between the hours of 9:00 AM to Noon. If you plan to participate, I would ask that you contribute $10 to help defray the cost of the newspaper ad. Money will be collected the morning of May 14. Participating homeowners should plan to exhibit their treasures in their driveways. The remainder of the ROA calendar is as follows: Tues, May 10 – Meeting of the Board of Directors and Architectural Review Committee at Charlie Battaglia’s residence Sat, May 14 – ROA Yard Sale Sat, August 27 – Architectural Review Committee Walk-through Tues, Sept 6 - Meeting of the Board of Directors and Architectural Review Committee at Dave Felt’s residence Fri, Sept 23 (T) – ROA Annual Social Mon, Oct 31 – Halloween Tues, Nov 1 - Meeting of the Board of Directors and Architectural Review Committee at Trish Janssen’s residence Tues, Dec 6 - Annual Meeting of ROA Homeowners. Two new board members to be elected. Charlie Battaglia and Dave Felt are retiring from the Board Dec - Annual Holiday Cookie Exchange. An exact date to be determined. We are looking for a homeowner to host this event. Best wishes for an enjoyable summer. Charlie Battaglia |

| I want to take this opportunity to welcome our latest homeowners - Debbie and Marty Ryan who have purchased the residence at 6342 River Downs Rd. Debbie and Marty have not traveled very far having lived less than a mile away for several years. Their two children attend school at Bishop Ireton High School and Queen of Apostles elementary school respectively. You can usually find Marty at one of his Dogfish Head Alehouse restaurants. Debbie and Marty are a delightful couple and I know that you will enjoy them as good neighbors. A special thank you to the Abrams who hosted a welcoming reception for the Ryans. This is a great idea and I hope the start of a tradition within Ridges of Alexandria. With three ROA homes in the process of sale, it would be wonderful if a nearby neighbor hosted a small farewell and welcome reception for our outgoing and incoming neighbors. With the winter season upon us, I usually receive a question on snow removal especially in light of last year's snow storms. Since our streets are owned by the state, we rely on the Virginia Department of Transportation to plow our streets. However, if the snow storm is large, it generally means that we will not see a plow for several days. Therefore, it is the policy of the Board to have a private snow removal company dig us out if the amount of snow forecast is to exceed six (6) inches. Hopefully, we will do better than last year when the demand for private snow plows overwhelmed the capacity. On behalf of Board of Directors Dave Felt and Trish Janssen, I wish you a healthy and prosperous 2011. Charlie Battaglia |

REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE BY PFC COURTNEY THIBAULT, MASON DISTRICT POLICE.
Greetings to all! I am writing to you for a favor. The Mason District Station, and all of Fairfax County, is experiencing an increase in larcenies from vehicles. The items that are being stolen are GPS units, satellite radios and other electronic equipment left in plain view in the car. A number of these larcenies are happening in the parking lots of churches and schools while events are going on.
I am asking that if you know of an upcoming event at a church or school in the Mason District area pleaseemail me. Due to these larcenies we want to have advanced notice of events that would result in a large number of cars parked in one area. Investigators and patrol officers will be able to increase patrol if we know of these events ahead of time.
Thank you in advance!

In the past few years, the number of cars and the great number of “trick or treat” children on the streets have been an equation for tragedy. In addition, several homeowners have had their homes egged by teenagers. For this Halloween, we are placing orange cones, provided by the Fairfax County Police, and an “Access Restricted” sign at the entrance to discourage non-resident cars from entering. There will be enough space between the cones to allow homeowners to pass. Also, if you plan to have guests, please advise them to ignore the cones and proceed to your home. In addition, I urge that you turn on as many outside lights as possible to discourage mischievous teenagers. In past years, homeowners have been very generous in welcoming children to their homes for “trick or treat” gifts of candy. Our policy is not to discourage this, but to make the event a safe one.

Dear Ridges of Alexandria Home Owners, In the past two months we have witnessed the departure of three valued homeowners – Louis and Rose Watkins, Scott and Dee Ann Schedler and Kaye Whitley. We will miss their friendship and wish them well. We now have three new homeowners and I want to take this opportunity to introduce them to you and to welcome them to Ridges of Alexandria. They are:
On behalf of all Ridges of Alexandria homeowners – your neighbors – a very warm welcome to each of you. We look forward to your friendship. Warm regards, Charlie Battaglia |
